Hello, hello, hello. How are all of you this first day of Fall?  I have had one heck of a busy summer, but so thrilled to be back on line, and doing what I love to do best - write and created my large array of handcrafted unique gifts. But the biggest thrill of them all is that in just a few more days it will be time for my blogs - 2014 Thrill Fest - ghost stories - old and new. Legends - Fact or Fiction and new caving ideas for your Halloween pumpkins of all shapes.
As you can see this is when I let myself step back from an every day wife and mother, and transform in "Katarina" Yes, this is a costume that I designed last year after writing a story called - "Hex of the Voodoo Witch - The Grey Hair Curse" - is the first story in my newly released book titled: "Twisted - Creepy Tales From A Mother's Mind" now available on Amazon.com.

But enough about me - I am calling on as many people who would like to share their stories of what scares them. (I will not put your names in the stories that I create).  Think about it... is it a dark rain on a moonless cold blustery fall night? Could it be the sounds of foot steps after everyone is tucked in bed for the night?  I'd like you to tell me, what gives you the creeps, scares you, or sends a chill up your spine when that Halloween season comes round?

I am so excited to get things going for what I'd like to call my blog for the Month of October - "Thrill Fest 2014" - LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED. All you have to do is tell me what scares you - If you dare - and let my imagination and love for Halloween develop fictional story that will have you hiding under the covers till dawns early light. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

You Asked for It - Creepy Legends and Myths:

8 days until Halloween

We'll here I am already into the middle of another week. First before we begin todays reader requested topic/s, I want to thank you all for the positive reviews on the last two stories that I posted. It's not easy to step out of ones comfort zone and take a chance on coming up with original short story ideas. Last year I relied more on the reader to share stories - which I will admit - made life so easy. Cut, paste, done. This year I wanted to test myself to see if I could meet the pressures and demands of having and meeting my deadlines. It's not easy, but I love the challenge.

Ok, so back to the readers request topic/s. Many of you loved the segments I did last year asking people to read small blurbs of legends and myths, and then you the reader had to decided if it was truth or fiction. Well that is what today is. Below are five paragraphs that have been categorized as either a legend or a myth. Do you know what is truth or what is fiction?  Good Luck! Come back tomorrow to find out how you scored. Until then Blog ya later.

The Legend:
A young man is dropping off groceries at the house of an eccentric old lady when he notices an old photo that makes the hair on his arms stand on end. The photo's normal enough--a young boy in his Sunday best--but something just seems off. He asks the old lady who it is.
"Oh," she replies, trying to stuff a cat in the dishwasher "isn't that beautiful? You can hardly tell he's dead."

The Legend:
A sick woman arrives at a hospital and when the nurses withdraw blood it is so toxic that it begins making everyone around her sick too. Realizing they're dealing with the human embodiment of the creature from Alien, the nurses flee for their lives.

The Myth:
A prop at a carnival was discovered not to be made of the usual combination of papier mache and carni spit, but human skin and bone. All the little kiddies at the haunted house had been poking and giggling at a real, mummified dead body.

The Legend:
Every day, millions of us put our lives in the hands of skilled physicians, dentists and white van tattoo artists. Whether we're getting wisdom teeth removed or our boobs corrected so they're the same size, we're working under two assumptions: A) The doctor in charge knows what he's doing and B) There is no way a doctor could be a psychopath who just went through medical school so he'd have an excuse to mutilate people.

The Legend:
Everyone knows the feeling. You're alone in your house when you get the unmistakable sense that you're being watched. It's like you can feel another human presence in the house with you, even though you know you locked the doors and windows. This spooky trick of the mind is probably why so many of our ghost stories are about someone being inside our house. There's the call that was coming from inside the house, the killer who hides under your bed, the guy who wakes up to find a note taped to his forehead or even the monsters living in our closet. But those fears are irrational, right?

At that moment Candace didn’t know what to do except go back to her clothes with the hopes that they were done drying. The digital display now read 9 minutes.

“This is going to be the longest nine minutes of my life! Forgot the laundry I want out of here!” she sputtered out loud. “How in the world can something so simple as drying clothes at a laundry mat, become so intense that a person would rather leave their things behind rather that to deal with this craziness?”
She was correct in thinking it would be the longest nine minutes of her life as her brain began to buzz with a deep seeded wonder and concern as endless questions, as to what she had seen, slammed into her thoughts. While she stood staring into the drum of the spinning dryer trying to fathom some sense to this madness, the lights began to flicker on and off, and then, as the dryer display read 6 minutes, the lights went out leaving Candace and the tenant in the silence of the dark for a brief moment until 3 of the five emergency generator lights partially illuminated three small areas, while the rest of the spaces appeared as black as night.

“WHAT NOW!” screamed Candace, now frustrated more than ever.

She could hear the tenant sputtering and fumbling her way across the room, dragging what appeared to be an oversize lawn and leaf type garbage bag, to the back of the store. She hoped that maybe the tenant was just trying to get the store cleaned up before it closed and there was another generator that all you had to do was hit a button and the lights would magically come on. If only it could be that easy, then she could finish with her laundry and go home.

It was an eerie feeling to be standing alone with only the sounds of the wind and rain against the windows.

“This is crazy.” Candace thought, “Dry clothes or not . . . I’m going home.”

She gathered up her laundry baskets and did her best to separate items accounting to their proper location in her home and what was still damp and what was dry. She stacked all the baskets into one store laundry cart and made her way across the room, fumbling the same way as the tenant. As she round a corner one side of the cart did not clear the bench which caused the top basket to begin to tip over. Candace quickly caught the basket with the exception of two kitchen towels that fell on the floor. As she got the basket balanced again and bent down to pick up the fallen laundry, her eyes were able to focus on the dark, wet; dragline that appeared too had gone from the cloaked strangers washers to the back room.

Immediately Candace did her best to rationalize why the floor appeared that way, but her curiosity was far too great not to try to determine whether it was water or blood. She was sly in her attempt, so not to be discovered if the tenant just happened to be watching her. As she grabbed for the towels, she extend her index finger out to run it across the floor and then curled her finger inwards so that whatever she collected, would be protected until she could examine it closer.

Without any words to signal to the tenant that she was leaving, Candace left the building and made her way through the storm while protecting the wetness she had retrieved from the floor. It was tricky trying to load her car, but when it came to wanting to know something, Candace would find a way to get the answers even if it meant protecting a finger swipe sample from a laundry mat floor. Her laundry was loaded and she quickly got herself safely out of the weather. Shock was the new mask she wore as her breath immediately left her body when she turned on the dome light to investigate what was now feeling think and sluggish on her finger – blood.

Just then a body ran against her car, she screamed locking the all the doors.  It felt like hours as she tried desperately to get her key into the ignition to get away. The car rocked side to side while the sounds of fists pounding her roof echoed like a quarter stick of dynamite going off in a metal fifty gallon drum. With every hit and shake she screamed louder and louder.

“God HELP ME!” she yelled out as she finally got the key into the ignition and started the car. At this point she wasn’t about to wait to see who or what was doing their or its best to get to her. She threw the car into reverse and stepped on the gas. The wheels spun out on the wet pavement, before catching. Then she threw it into forward gear and quickly drove away.

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!” she yelled out over and over, while trying to keep her car safely on the road, at a high rate of speed, in the rain. “I don’t understand! Someone please help me understand!”

The rain was coming down so hard that even the fastest of windshield wipers could not keep the visibility clear, but was clear enough that even though the distortion of the sheet of water beating on her window, she could see that the light at the intersection ahead had changed from yellow to red. She came to a stop and just sat there trying to regain her composure. Never in her life had she ever been this terrified. Even the worst or worst horror films, had never had this great of an impact as she was feeling that that very moment.

She began to calm down and thought, “If only Glen had been there to help her, or if he had been there, maybe none of this would have ever happened.”

The light turned green and away she went.  There wasn't a soul around, just herself and her laundry - homeward bound. She was thrilled to finally be on her street and knew that in a few more house numbers she would be home, but when she finally came upon her house a growing sense of fear began to take over once again. The storm had not only taken the power out at the laundry mat, it had also hit a section of her community as well – so she thought.

One by one she got all of her laundry back into the safety of her home. She grabbed her emergency lantern that she always kept next to the front door for moments like these and found her way to her dining room to light the candles on her table and her mantle. As she slowly light each candle, and dark shadowy image became clearer in corner of her eye. She struggled with the choice of screaming or pretending not to see anything. A familiar shuffling filled her senses – she had heard it before – the clocked stranger in the laundry – it was now in her home!

“GET OUT!” she screamed “GET OUT! GET OUT!”

She ran out of the room, running into walls and knocking things off of her shelves. The clocked stranger slowly made its way after her. She knew that she had to get out of the house and the only other way out was the downstairs family room as her back door was a two-way dead bolt. She quickly ran down the stairs, nearly losing her balance. All she could think was to get out of the house and get to a near-by neighbors home. As she stepped on the last step, all the lights in the basement came on and about three dozen people yelled out – “SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANDACE!

She felt to the floor, still in disbelief of all that stood before her and exclaimed, “It’s in the house we have to get out – get out! Save yourselves!”

“Candace . . . sweetie what’s wrong!?” questioned her best friend Michelle as she tried to give her a big birthday hug, “Breath sweetie you’re going to give yourself a heart attack.”

“The stranger in the cloak, the blood, the laundry mat, my finger . . .” all Candace could do was ramble on.

“You mean Glen?” said one of the guys Glen worked with. “That big ugly guy over there, you’re afraid of him.” The guy laughed.

She turned around as Glen removed the dark hood from his head. “I wanted to surprise you and I know how much you love those scary Halloween movies, I wanted to add some fun to the gag.” He commented in a genuinely sincere voice coupled with a sinister smile. “But then we realized we had gone too far, when you almost ran me over in your car at the laundry mat.”

“That was you!?” she exclaimed.

“Well Lori and I. Lori was the tenant who pretended not to speak English and yelled at you when we put the fake Halloween body props in a red pillow case and added food coloring and a piece of wire so that the washing would drip and bubble looking like blood. You handled yourself better than I would have expected. We even unhooked the heating element from your dryer so that we could get you out of the house, but you surprised us by doing laundry a bit later than you’ve normally had done it in the past.”

Candace was able to smile again when it had finally sunk in that she had been the survivor of a prank/birthday surprise. The party was great and the food was fantastic. But the best part was when they turned on the lights and got her dryer element hooked up again - that was the best gift of them all.

***

The next morning, as Candace got out of bed and let Glen sleep in, she realized that she had laundry that was still damp and decided that running it in the dryer would be the best thing to do, before a mildew smell began to develop.

She sorted through all the closes that had that wet/damp feeling, which was only about eight pieces, and took them downstairs to be put in the dryer. She chucked when she saw a big lawn and leaf trash bag sitting on the floor and a pool of blood surrounded it.

She laughed and jokingly said, “Oh Glen, got to get in one more of those crazy pranks.”

She put the laundry in the dryer and hit the button for ten minutes when she heard, what sounded like a cell phone ringing from the bag. Then her good old trust worthy curiosity took a grip on her again when she decided to opened Glen’s back of Halloween body part props so that she could clean up the red food coloring on the floor.

As she took the tie off the bag and opened it, she was met with a smell of rotting flesh.

“Wow, he really was going all out.” She laughed again. She placed her hand into the bag and was met by the feeling of another hand, while a phone that was in it, was ringing. She was only able to grip the phone at first and immediately recognized that it belonged to the tenant from the laundry mat.
"Dumb chick must have dropped it in the bad while making Glens gag look real. But I didn't know that rubber would smell so realistic." she pondered. She set the phone down and proceed to reach into the bag again. While gripping the body part, as she pulled it out of the bag, she was met with a sound behind her, like the cloaked stranger in the laundry mat.

“Oh Glen, you just don’t know when to quit.”

As she pulled the body part out of the bag, it was then she was met with the deep gut wrenching fear she had all along – body parts, legs, arms, hands, - It was a real human body.  She stood up and slowly turned around. Their before her stood the cloaked stranger with a knife held high above his head.

A screamed filled the house and then nothing more, except the sounds of a dryer - with only 6 minutes left to go.

"OH NO!" exclaimed Candace as she reached into her dryer to discover that although her laundry had been tumbling for more than an hour, they were as wet and as cold at the moment she'd put them in to dry. "This is so not what I need right now!"
In her mind she began to see her budget dwindling and her credit cards burst into flames, for she knew from situations past, anything in her home that had a heating element in it was going to result in either a hug repair bill by some repairman who would hit on her and then rake her wallet through the coals, or a complete replacement of the product - either choice was not in her budget.
On the flip side of her exceptional ability to think the worst and the worst moment, she also had the special "MacGyver" mind set when faced with solving unexpected problems - and this situation would be no different from any other. Candace had only one solution - get everything washed and take it to the local laundry mat to dry it all. Three washes at home and one trip to the laundry mat would buy her about three days - she'd worry about her dryer dilemma later.
By nine o'clock that evening she had washed the entire fleet of dirty dish and shower towels, work clothes, and even a few items that her boyfriend, Glen, had left behind during his weekend stay. "I wish Glen was here right now," she thought as she looked upon the three heaping baskets that she would now be loading into her car - by herself in the cold and pouring down rain that could be heard even in a sound proof booth.
One basket at a time, she managed to get the laundry into her, old, and very small but VERY reliable, Volkswagen Rabbit. She quickly got into her car, started it up, hit the defroster on high heat to keep the windows from fogging up, and looked for any radio station that would put her in a better mood for doing laundry so late and on such a dreary bone chilling wet night. "It's this kind of storm that make even the sane go mad." she thought as she backed out of the driveway and  headed down the road.
The cold harsh rain beat hard against her car as the wind blew strong and unforgivingly as she slowly drove towards her destination. "Ha Ha," she chuckled out loud to herself, "What a great scene for a horror movie - Young petite woman ventures out alone during a dark stormy night heading into a unknown danger that awaits her..." she laughed again, "at the laundry mat." A chill streaked through her body. "Ok Candace...maybe not."
The roads gave the illusion of ice from the reflection of the street lights that had not been damaged by the wind. She loved the idea that she was not sitting in a line of traffic due to the evening rush. When she finally arrived she was again pleased with the lack of human life and the cars in which they drive. By the looks of things, she was going to get to drive right up to the door and would be able to stay somewhat dry.
All the stores in the plaza were close and dark for the night with the exception of the laundry mat and its neon sign that read, in a bug zapper blue looking light, open and the EZ-Mart with its sign that said Z-Mat  because it was in dire need of a few red blubs to be replaced. What added to the spooky finger she felt was poking her on her back - the laundry mat harbored a strange glow due to its foggy windows that were created from the heat and dampness in the building being warmer than the temperatures outside and offered no visibility to allow her to see who was inside. A strange uneasy feeling was beginning to works it's magic to set the seed in her mind to become fearful of what may lay behind the fog adorned windows.
"It's a flipping laundry mat Candace - get your ass out of the car!" she screamed at herself. Still a bit apprehensive, she collected the laundry baskets and a box of dryer sheets and made her way into the building.
Ring....Ring, sounded the small brass bell that was hung over one of the two doors she chose to enter through.
"Olla" said a small but stern voice from a women who appeared to be of an Asian or foreign decent, that was seated behind the counter. "We close soon...No wash."
"Hi, um that's fine. I only need to dry these?" Candace replied sounding more like a question of having to drying them vs. needing to dry them. "I've never gotten the pleaser of going to a laundry mat and being the only one here. All the dryers all to me, myself, and I, - this is so cool."
"Ok...Fine...you dry."
"Phew! This stuff would have caused a huge stink if I had to wait until tomorrow. Nothing worse than the smell of...." The laundry tenant looked at her as she continued to nervously babble on. "Wet clothes turning to the dark side and smell like some ones old footlocker or attic barn."
The woman at the counter nodded her had but clearly didn't understand the nervous banter.
"You know...a moldy smell?" She questioned again, hoping her explanation would change the tenants’ look of confusion. Candace pondered for a moment and tried to rationalize that maybe there was some type of a language barrier, or better yet, the woman was pretending not to understand because she didn't want to talk to her. Being almost closing Candace realized that the look was more of a - hurry up and get your shit done...I want to go home.
As Candace did her best to get both her laundry dried and a laugh from the tenant, the sounds of the muffled wind and the rain intensified as it accompanied the ringing of a second bell from the open entry door furthest away from the counter.
"Olla" said the tenant.
The sounds of snorting and frothy bubbles were the only sounds short of a greeting.
"Dang, that person must be drunk," Candace thought as she looked away from her laundry, that was tumbling heavy and hard in the dryer. All she wanted to do was try and get a quick peek as to who had come through the door, but all she could see was that whoever it was wore a dark hooded cloak that was drenched with water and appeared as if they had walked many blocks to do their laundry. Not once did the man or woman under the cloak ever look up to make eye contact. Candace knew that she would be called out as rude if she kept being nosy and not wanting to get caught staring, decided to refocus her attention back to her drying laundry.
A Heavy rustling and shuffling grew more and more intense. The scuffing of the unseen customers boot covered feet, in the water that was pooling on the floor from the wet cloak, sounded like children playing in a spring puddle - wet and messy.  Suddenly, and without any warning, there was a loud - BANG - SLAM - BANG - SLAM SLAM. It was clear that their laundry was now loaded and was confirmed by the sounds of quarters being feed into the washing machine. For a few short moments the room was filled only with the sounds of two washes and three dryers running, and then once again the bell rang out and the unknown person went back out into the storm.
Candace turned to see the tenant looking down at her cell phone when she asked, "Hey, I thought you said no washes because you'll be closing soon?"
The tenant quickly looked up at her with a continued expressionless look and then slowly looked back down at her cell phone.
Once again it was now only the tenant and Candace and 30 minutes left to go until the dryers were done. Candace had forgotten that the one downside to drying clothes at this particular place was that all the benches, for customers to sit down on, were all near the washers and only folding tables were near the dryers. Fitting, but inconveniencing at the same time. It was getting to that point in the night where the only thing Candace wanted to do was to be home, wrapped up in her favorite quilt, a cup of hot tea with lemon and honey, and watch a great mystery thriller movie. "It's October, the season for all things that go bump in the night, as long as it is experienced from the safety of my home and the comforts of my couch." she thought and then laughed out loud. "This is the last place I want to be, but if I have to, then I'm sitting down."
Not wanting to be seated close to the counter where the expressionless tenant, or ET, which was now the new title Candace had thought up, she sat at the beach nearest the washers where the cloaked soaked mystery customer was doing their wash. As she watched the washer move around, she recalled her days as a young child when her mother would take the family laundry to dry on days when the weather didn't allow for it to be lined dried. From what she could remember, her family didn't own a dryer until her freshmen year of high school, and she'd be the first to tell you that there is nothing better than a bed that was just made with sheet that were hung outside to dry.
She always loved to watch the washers gently roll the clothes through the sudsy white bubbles back and forth and then flip into a crazed almost out of control spin. As she watched the two washers run through their cycles, she noticed that it appeared that the customer was washing two red comforters - one in each washer.
"Wow, that person could have saved themselves $2.50 if they had used the 35lb washer and put both of them in together. What a waste of money." she remarked quietly to herself. "I wish I had...."
Her thoughts were immediately interrupted by a strange sound that was a blend of water dripping and think bubbles that were coming one of the strangers washers. Not wanting to bring attention to herself, she remained seated, but leaned as far forward as she could toward the washer only to notice, that in addition to the strange noises, it also seemed to be leaking a bubbly reddish fluid. It was certainly not any kind of laundry soap that she'd ever seen. She decided to get up and get a closer looker.
"No! NO TOUCH!" Screamed the laundry tenant in a sharp stinging sounding voice as she flung her out from behind the counter and headed towards Candace like a fire storm out of control.
"No touch wash! No belong to you! Move way now!"
"What's the problem? I'm only trying to help." Candace could feel her heart trying to repeatedly jump into her throat while her blood was pumping a mile a minute.
"Wash not yours!  The tenant continued to scream as she pushed her away from the washer.
This time Candace had gotten an expression, one of anguish and hate. The tenant then looked dead into her eyes while flailing her arm out and pointed in the directions of the dryers and said in an evil tone of voice, "You go dry clothes! Then you go home! No come back!"
The same cold chill that road with her from home, found its place within Candace once again. Her instinct was telling her something was wrong. While the logical side of her wishing she was home.
"It wasn't laundry detergent coming from that washer." She thought. Then in one brief moment she let herself ponder the idea of what it could have been - immediately she could feel the hair on her body standing right up straight to accompany the chill she was now wearing as a coat. She knew what it was leaking from the washer; she knew what it was indeed - human blood.

To be continued.

"Buried Alive"

MY GREAT-GREAT grandmother, ill for quite some time, finally passed away after lying in a coma for several days. My great-great grandfather was devastated beyond belief, as she was his one true love and they had been married over 50 years. They were married so long it seemed as if they knew each other's innermost thoughts.
After the doctor pronounced her dead, my great-great grandfather insisted that she was not. They had to literally pry him away from his wife's body so they could ready her for burial.
Now, back in those days they had backyard burial plots and did not drain the body of its fluids. They simply prepared a proper coffin and committed the body (in its coffin) to its permanent resting place. Throughout this process, my great-great grandfather protested so fiercely that he had to be sedated and put to bed. His wife was buried and that was that.
That night he woke to a horrific vision of his wife hysterically trying to scratch her way out of the coffin. He phoned the doctor immediately and begged to have his wife's body exhumed. The doctor refused, but my great-great grandfather had this nightmare every night for a week, each time frantically begging to have his wife removed from the grave.
Finally the doctor gave in and, together with local authorities, exhumed the body. The coffin was pried open and to everyone's horror and amazement, my great-great grandmother's nails were bent back and there were bloody scratch-marks on the inside of the coffin.

Prologue
The long and winding dirt road gave the grand illusion of forgotten twin paths running parallel to one another tucked deeply into the thickness of the forest that even on the brightest of days was shadowed into night. The headlights of the 1986 Jeep Wrangler shone luminously on the tree line that bordered the road and drooped heavily inward causing an overwhelming sense of claustrophobia, like being in a tunnel, as the intense rain of an unexpected thunderstorm feel straight from the sky with great abundance. At times the rain was so intense it was causing the road to wash out in places while the windshield wipers moved back and forth swiftly to keep the water from obstructing the ability to stay focused on the road ahead.
Numerous bolts of lightning intensified as they continued hitting the ground and engulfing the Jeep with sounds like fuel trucks exploding all around them, as Camille and Devon Raves continued towards their destination. They would be the first to admit that when they read the add in the newspaper, they never envisioned anything more than a quick and simple road trip to endless summer sunny days of bliss after enjoying great breakfast’s on the front porch, of what they hoped would soon to be their newly purchased lake house.
Camille had her days all planned – her hours by day consisted of nothing more than relaxing on the beach covered from head to town in a coconut scented tanning oil, sipping on a frozen tequila sunrise while reading the newest best-selling mystery thriller, “Deemed Crazy.” Her nightly entertainment would be filled with her naked body pressed against Devon’s as they enjoyed their location of seclusion while indulging in intimate moments and passionate kissing while occasionally gazing upon the stars in a hammock suspended between two very mature oak trees.
Devon had a different outlook on what his days would consist of. He was an avid fisherman and his goal was to hook the biggest lake trout this side of the Mason Dixon line. As for sexual pleasures, to him a hammock was too much work to experience the maximum fulfillment he so desired, but a thick furry rug in front of a crackling fire place, a bottle of patron, and Camille lying by his side for him to explore her body to the peak of climax - would suit him just fine.
The sound of the storm was very hypnotic for the both of them creating an eerie silence in the vehicle.
BANG! Both of them flinched.
“Wow that was a bit to close.” Camille exclaimed as she tried to pull herself together and push her rising stress level out of her mind. “I never was one for extreme thunderstorms. All I can imagine are huge funnel clouds creating havoc on innocent citizens when they least expect it.
“You can say that again!”
“Where in the world did you get these directions?  There is no way this road is on Map Quest. Isn’t there a highway or some other way to the lake house?”
“These were the directions that the home owners gave to me. They insisted that it took about two hours off the trip.”
“Yeah…but the storm added three hours. Was it a guy or a girl who gave them to you?”
“What does it matter if it was a guy or girl who gave me the directions? But if you have to know it was a women and her name was Jillian Russell; she seemed nice and seemed confident that this was the best route. "
“I guess.”
“Come on Camille where is that sense of adventure? And you know the lady can’t predict the weather, even the weather men can predict the weather. I bet if she had known it was going to be bad going, she’d have told us another way."

"OK, Devon lets talk about something else." clearly the tone of her voice implied that it was time for a new topic.

"Sweetie, I know you’re discouraged and with it being so dark it seems like it has taken us forever. Let look on the bright side, Mrs. Russell did say there was as small town just before the lake house location. She also said it had a bar. What do you say we stop for a drink and some wings? I’m buying.” He said with a smile as he reached for her hand to comfort her.
Immediately she felt safe as he stoked her hand and then squeezed it tightly. “Anything sounds great right now. I just want out of this weather.”
“It’s going to be OK. If thing were always easy, everyone would be buying a lake house…Right?” He chuckled. “I love you.”
“I love….”
“Holy Crap! Do you see that!?”  Devon shouted out.
“See what?” questioned Camille instantly spooked by Devon’s immediate sense of panic.
“Something is in the road up ahead. Do you see it? Do you see it?”
“In this weather, babe I think it’s just a reflection of the lights on the wet trees.”
He twitched and squirmed almost like a man who had just be given a brand new 4x4 truck for free and had been instructed to take it for a spin. “Camille, I’m telling you that there is something on the road ahead…can’t you see it?”
“No! Devon I don’t like this! Stop trying to scare me!”
He suddenly slammed on the clutch and breaks and threw the jeep in neutral and peered out of the wind as he sat motionlessly fixated on a ghostly image that only he could see and appeared to be floating in mid-air.
“Devon?” she cried out, “Devon! What are you doing?”
He then turned to her with a blank stare in his eyes yet spoke not a word. It was clear that whatever he had seen and had him feeling anxious had now turned to shear fear. When he turned to look back towards the road the image was gone.
She was careful when she softly spoke his name again, “Devon? Are you alright?”
He nodded his head up and down while slowly turning back to look at Camille. His face was pale as beads of sweat dripped off his brow. His hands were clenched tightly around the steering wheel. He tried to speak but the words could not find any tone.
“Devon, you’re scaring me. What’s wrong?”
Dazed and confused, he began to find the ability to speak, yet only in a whisper, “It was my father…I saw my father." He shook his head in disbelief and then continued to speak with a bit more tone, "I’m sure it was him, I saw the flower I made him and that my mother pinned to his lapel on the suit that she dressed him in for the funeral. I know that was my father.”

"But how can that be?" questioned Camille,  "He’s passed away ten years ago."

Camille reached her hand out slowly to touch his arm, trying to provide him some sense of comfort, but clearly unsure what to do or say. Whatever he had seen, it had clearly affected him in a traumatic way. As she was starting to ask him a question, their vehicle was impacted by large object followed by an overwhelming shaking.
“DRIVE DEVON DRIVE!” Camille screamed.
He stomped on the gas pedal while grinding into first gear and quickly sped off into the darkness of the storm paying no mind to anything that may cross their path. His thought process now – If something gets in my way again, I’m running it over.”
The mud from the washed away sections of the road cascaded from the tires in massive arch before hitting the ground as Devon did his best to control the jeep, while driving at a dangerously high rate of speed, on a road that neither had ever been on before. Sounds of the standard engine that had been set to four-wheel drive pierced the rain as they did their best to get back to civilization of the small town that the seller spoke of. Yet at this point, any town would do, just as long as they were off this road of craziness once and for all.

"Be On The Lookout"

17 Days until Halloween

"My son and his Ghoul Friends"

As many of us prepare for the upcoming Halloween traditions, I find myself being pulling in several directions which often leads me to leave things incomplete; take my blogging for example. I am doing the best to write every day, but my weekends are not forgiving when it comes to needing my time to write.  As you know, my family and I have been volunteers for our local Halloween Haunt for the past ten years. But something happened this year that none of the haunted barn and hay ride ghouls ever expect - This year we all got the green light to change our scene's 100%.  So here is my question of the day - What happens when you tell about two dozen very creative extreme Halloween lovers they can change their scare tactics?  You get a house that is guaranteed to completely scare all those who dare to enter through its doors. Four about six years I had always obtained the back portion of our haunted house. I would always make the Meat Locker scene and a maze that resembled walking through very dimly lit catacombs that would take you past most people’s worst nightmare - Clowns. Another year I added a huge spiders den and a huge mystery box into the maze and locker scene. I just kept adding to what I had already created, never changing the original design that I had started with. I guess you could say I was becoming very complacent in where and what my scenes would be. The best way to describe my thinking - I wished for change, but at the same time, feared it as the set up each year was easy because I knew it very well. It would usually take about four days and I would be done and then wait for opening night.
This year, our Queen of Haunt did something like non-other. Her exact words were, "I WANT THIS HAUNTED BARN AND HAUNTED HAY RIDE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THIS YEAR -MAKE IT HAPPEN!"  What made me think that I was exempt from this change is beyond me. It was a phone call from a very close friend that snapped my complacency into a huge reality check. All I remember hearing was myself repeating what she had told me, but with sheer fear wrapped tightly around my words - "They moved my maze to the front of the building!?" Immediately my brain began to shake rattle and roll with crazed thoughts slamming back and forth in my head. How could I do it? I have no place to attach the walls too! I'm going to have to build it free standing!? It won't work! It won't look right! I am certain that my friend heard the panic in my voice, but she had enough on her mind and with great ease simply said to me, "You'll figure it out, I know you will."
Usually that helps calm my mind down, but not this time. I was in for a massive change and feared that I would let the Queen of the Halloween Happening down. After having three days to ponder in my head what my scene would look like, I was still unable to envision it in my mind without going there in person to take measurements and make myself begin to think outside the box I was hiding in. It was only then, and the endless help from my husband, did my inner creative self-slap the negative Nelly out of my thinking for good.  Today, after two days of working diligently on my new creations, I am able to stand back and honestly feel that this may be the best creation I have thought up, that includes a whole new maze, unknown scares have been incorporated, and the best part, this will require a new tour guide costume for me. WAA WHOO!!!! You will not only be taken into the biggest Halloween thrill in Annapolis - You'll be entering the best Anne Arundel County Fair Halloween Happening event, you'll be entering;
"ADAM'S NIGHTMARE"
One can only hope that the nightmare won't haunt you in your dreams.

So I know that I had said that my hopes were to have my blog written every day for the month of October and that it would be Halloween Themed. Well I guess I can say I have kept part of my promise. I may have missed both the Saturdays so far in October, but everything I have put together for you, my loyal readers and new readers that may have just discovered my writing,  the main goal continues to remain – Halloween themed. I have been working very hard on two very special original writings that my editors have been very happy with thus far. My plans were to post a spooky story called “The Harvest Moon” last week, but have been asked to keep it for Halloween week to really shake things up. I love that people are writing to me about my stories all asking for me to write more. Well,  I am pleased to announce I will continue to post stories I receive and that I will have another one of my original scary stories posted this week that is titled; “The Sister’s Curse”.  So until tomorrow, I will let your eyes leave my page so that your mind can begin to wonder – “Is this blogger crazy or what?” I’ll answer that question tomorrow.  Goodnight All – Blog ya later. Hey and if I haven't said it lately. Thanks for reading my writings. It means so much me to see all the different countries that are seeing my words. I am truly grateful.
