20 Days until Halloween
Ok, I have been going back and forth in my
mind whether or not to write this next spooky story. Now it is not on the level
of blood and gore, but it fits the category as gross and very disgusting. Who
knows, many of you may have had dads who already told you the same story, and
why - because they could. All I can say is that it is funny what a kid
remembers. I was 8 when my dad told me this story - So here it goes.
It had always been know that the lighthouse
on Smugglers Rock was a spooky place to see during the day, but by night it was haunted. Nobody ever went in and nobody ever came out -
yet the light still cut a path through the night sky and every so often a brief
image, of an unknown person or thing, would be silhouetted when the light went
round. One night, four college friends were walking along the Cliffside and
noticed a silhouette of a figure with each pass of the dome light. Each of them dared one another to go into the lighthouse and find out
if it was a person or really a ghost that haunted it. All of them were very hesitant, but not wanting to be called chicken, one by one they made their way down the
overgrown grassy hillside and out onto the cliff side to where the lighthouse
was perched.
"Ok, let's go in, said Ben." When
they entered the base of the tower, they were surprised to find that the
staircase that led up to the lighthouse dome was very narrow and much too steep
for everyone to go up all at once, and so, a game of truth or dare commenced.
Rick was the first to take a turn and
wanting to show off for the ladies of the group, he immediately chose dare, "I'm not afraid of anything," he scoffed and
made his way up the darkened dimly lit staircase to the top. Suddenly there was
screaming followed by Rick running down the stairs as fast as he could, passing his friends while
yelling, "A scary voice said to me - Now I've Got You!" Rick had been
so frightened that he ran all the way home leaving his friends behind.
Monica would be the next to take her turn,
and also chose dare. She knew there was no such thing as ghosts and that Rick
was just trying to play games to scare everyone. As her friends anxiously
waited and the bottom of the staircase, soon the quiet of the night was filled
once again by screaming - this time coming from Monica. She too, came running
down the stairs, past her friends while yelling, "I heard the ghost! It said
to me - Now I've got you where I want you!" She was too scared to stay
there any longer and out the door she went, running all the way home and
leaving her friends behind.
Ben, not believing that any of this was true,
decided that there was to be no more game playing and he was going to get to
the bottom of this if this was the last thing he did that night. He slowly made
his way up the staircase, listening for any type of strange voice in the
darkness of the night. As he reached the top of the stairs a shadow was briefly
casted upon the floor as the light went round, then he too heard a voice that
scared him. "Now I got you where I want you, now I'm going to eat
you!" He was so frightened by what he had heard he could not scream as he
quickly ran downstairs to Linda, who was the only person who had not heard
anything. When Ben had gotten to his friend, she stopped him and said, “No more
of these stupid games! You are going back up those stairs with me! There is no
such thing as a ghost!”
Both Ben and Linda slowly crept back up the
dark winding staircase to where he had seen and heard the ghost. As they
reached the top of the steps, they both saw the brief shadow and heard a monstrous
voice that said, "Now I've got you where I want you, now I'm going to eat
you!" Linda grabbed Bens hand and slowly pushed opened the door. They
stood frozen with fear and a sense of sheer horror came over them. They
couldn't believe their eyes. Standing in the dome was a small boy, who was no
more than ten years old, who had been picking his nose. When he was finished, he stood there for a moment staring at a booger on his finger, then in his
best monster sounding voice he said, "Now I've got you where I want you -
now I'm going to eat you!"
Gotch ya! EWWWWW....No pun intended. Now come on I know my story was gross, but Halloween has got to have more than just blood and gore. I just hope that nobody was eating raisins when they read this. *Wink* - sorry I couldn't resist. So, now you have a story that is kinda clean, but funny to tell your kids and who knows, maybe in thirty-something years they will remember the funny joke their parents told them, and they'll be telling their kids. So until tomorrow - have a wonderful evening and as always - I'll blog ya later.
